Had to power down the Mojos yesterday evening to move things around a bit. After powering back up, RAdmin couldn't find Mojo11. Pinging it didn't work either.
I went down and powered it off again, connected a mouse, keyboard, and monitor to it, and powered it back on. The fans whirr, the hard drive makes noise, but I don't get any video signal from it. I did see the network lights blink once or twice, but I still can't ping it. Any suggestions? |

Just a few suggestions which you may have already tried. Does this mb have on board video and on board ethernet? If so, are you able to even get it to post? If not maybe trying a video card and a network adapter. As a last resort you might try shorting the cmos on the mb to reset it to default settings and see if that might work.
Can't really think of anything else at the moment. |

I'd try using another video card if you have one. Like was suggested about take out the CMOS battery or move the jumper over to reset it and see how that goes.

Very good suggestions! I'll give 'em a try.
It has onboard video and network. I have spares of both to try. This post has been edited by bbacher: Feb 10 2006, 10:35 PM |

Well... I tried resetting the BIOS, and tried another video card in it. Still nothing. IF it's trying to POST, I don't know about it because I get no video from it. I even tried another monitor.
Stick a fork in it - I think it's done. |

I've seen something similar... Can you try one of the PSU's from a different blade? If not that, try the memory too. Make sure the HD is not connected when doing this.

Sorry... can you spell it out for me? Is this it?
1) disconnect HD 2) swap out memory and PSU from a working unit 3) power it up and see what happens |

You spelled it out pretty well. Sorry about any vagueness.

From your op I believe that you probably don't have a problem with the psu, since your fans are coming on and the hard drive is spinning along with flashing lights from the on board network adapter. A dead psu would do nothing and a psu with declining volts on your 3.3, 5.0 and 12 volt rails would most likely be causing reboots.
I do agree with Dersgniw to try a different stick of memory. You might also try using the same memory stick in a different slot to see if maybe one of your memory slots has gone bad. Just for curiosity, what brand of memory, mb, and psu are you using? Seems I read somewhere that you all are using 400 or 420 watt psu's? With not a lot of peripherals attached I wouldn't think the psu would be the culprit. Definitely try the memory first. Good luck! |

Mig, what you say about it probably not being the PSU makes sense, but I just had a friend who recently was having very strange problems. Machine would boot then the screen would go blank. Sometimes it wouldn't start at all. Other things too. I can't really remember. Anyway, I had him try all the things we went through here. Last try was the power supply That ended up being the problem. I assume something like surging/dropping voltages/wattages. Who knows. Its probably not the case here, but it's a possibiliity.

I would not rule out the psu either. Just the symptom of it coming on and no mention of rebooting would tend to make me think to look elsewhere first.
Did I sound too matter of factly? You could put all my PC hardware knowledge on the end of a hair. |

Nah, I was only replying to what you said because I didn't want Bruce to not check the PSU in case he read your reply as being definitive that the PSU wasn't the culprit... phew...
I have very little hardware knowledge myself.. And, I know you have more knowledge than you claim! -------------------- Hope is why we are here...

As mentioned above the next step is swapping the memory out with a known working stick. That mobo might be done for.

Sounds like a dying mobo. Scrap it, get a new one.

I tend to agree with Jeff (and your original assessment).
As you said, "stick a fork in it..." Personally, I think the MB is dead/dying. If you tried another video card and a different memory stick and it's still not working; it's bad news if none of that helps. The only other thing would be bad memory OR the PSU. A bad PSU could exhibit that behavior (rebooting and shutting down) Still, if it's not posting and you're getting nothing -- it's probably the MB. Sorry bout the double post. I just wanna be "Dolphin." This post has been edited by Dolphin: Feb 16 2006, 06:02 PM |

I would not rule out the power supply without at least swapping with a known good unit. I've seen them do strange things if the rails go out of spec. I've fought with them enough over the years that I bought a cheap atx tester at comp usa. At this point memory would be a slim possibility as it would at least try to post or beep an error code. You might also check the cpu fan connection to the motherboard, most boards won't turn on without it in order to save the cpu. If you have it straight to a power supply molex without a "monitor" wire (my volcano 7+ has a single yellow wire to the mobo header) it may keep the board from fully powering on.
Edit: Also check that the cpu fan is connected to the cpu fan header, not to a chassis fan header. This post has been edited by catdaddy63: Feb 17 2006, 03:35 AM |

One thing I have found with the Blades I am working on right now. Do you have one of those $20 PSU's on it?
I had 2 blades do what you describe, changed PSU, they booted right up. Just my 2 cents worth. Mike. |

How are you making out with the blade? Were you able to test it with another psu? Hope things are going in your favour.
